Information is being circulated that the Kent Freedom Pass cost will rise to £100 per child. This disadvantages freedom of independence for young people in utilising valuable public transport. This is not a sustainable carbon friendly way to support the plant, retain public transport services, permit young people to gain valuable transport skills

On 17th February Kent County Council agreed to a £50
increase in the cost of the Kent Freedom Pass. The annual cost is
now £100. However recognising that some families will find
this increase difficult, children in receipt of a free school meal
will continue to pay £50. For Kent's looked after children
and Kent's young Carers the pass will be free. The Freedom Pass
continues to be excellent value for money and in many cases savings
of between £300- £400 can be achieved in the cost of
each child's annual travel. Currently there are 26,300 passes in
use.
