-Solefields Road takes the brunt of all-day commuter parking
from three schools (Sevenoaks School, Solefields School and West
Heath School) which leads to congestion, inconsiderate and
dangerous parking.
-All adjacent roads have parking restrictions, which sees displaced
commuter parking forced into a 185m stretch of Solefields Road.
-School coaches parking for cricket matches and vehicles often parked on both sides of the road during busy periods cause a slalom along a road that takes heavy school traffic often resulting in traffic jams & road rage, vehicles blocking residents access to their properties, zero visibility for residents pulling out of their properties and crucially insufficient space for emergency vehicle access.
-Vehicles are often parked on the pavement reducing pedestrian access, including to scores of schoolchildren every day.
-Many of Solefields Road’s drains are heavily blocked and swathes of the road are never swept due to the significant number of constantly parked vehicles limiting sweeper access.
-In 2018 Sevenoaks Council funded a £10m, 200-space
multi-storey car park at Buckhurst 2 to reduce all day parking in
the town centre and residential streets. There is no need for
Solefields Road to be under such pressure with an alternative
already in place.
