The Approval will outline the delivery mechanisms lead by the Director of Property & Infrastructure to acquire residential properties, refurbish properties, new build, disposals and letting out residential properties as part of the Margate Housing Intervention programme. The Approval will seek the appropriate route, subject to Procurement Board advice on the most cost effective procurement route to refurbish properties and to invest £10 million as outlined in the Capital Programme and Budget Book.
How the decision relates to BS4K and Corporate Objectives
This decision meets a number of the 16 priorities in delivering Bold Steps including providing housing growth that is affordable, sustainable and with the appropriate infrastructure by using KCC’s surplus assets to deliver this when there is market uncertainty with the delivery of new housing stock in Kent. The organisation will also be helping to Thanet DC with Margate Taskforce with wider scale regeneration of Margate. The proposal will seek to deliver housing regeneration and mixed tenure housing and this is a key part of Bold Steps for Housing strategy. The proposal will provide construction jobs for key businesses in Kent and provide a platform for job opportunities for local people.
Impact/costs and risks of proposed decision
The impact, costs and risks will be different for each property acquired but the project management of the project will report to the proposed Margate Delivery Board and Margate Executive Group so the impact of the programme can be aligned to wider Margate regeneration proposals
