Decision details

12/02025 - PRU / Alternative Provision / review of current services

Decision Maker: Cabinet Member for Education, Learning & Skills

Decision status: Recommendations Approved

Is Key decision?: No

Is subject to call in?: Yes

Purpose:

Pupil Referral Units - Alternative Provision Review.  To seek agreement to a review of the current provision provided by KCC

Within the Bold Steps for Education priorities there is a target to reduce Permanent Exclusions in Kent to 50 or fewer by 2015.  It is anticipated that new localised management of provision for disaffected young people at risk of exclusion will support this ambition. The intended outcome of the PRU/ AC review will be to establish high quality provision locally managed by groups of schools working together, to support all young people at risk of disengaging from school.

Financial Implications:

From April 2013 government guidance requires that PRUs have a delegated budget.  This would change existing requirements for budgeting, monitoring and reporting, although these changes would only have a minor effect on the PRUs. At present, the basis for devolution of funds is yet to be determined and is part of the next phase of consultation.

Legal Implications:

These will be outlined in th report to Education Cabinet Committee in January 2013

Equality Impact

An assessment will be carried out and results presented to Education Cabinet Committee prior to the Cabinet member taking the decision at the end of January 2013
