Chairman’s Announcements

Late Report

 

(1)       The Chairman informed the Council that he had agreed to take Item 2 as urgent in order that a “Kent Commitment Statement” could be published on 25 January and subsequently submitted to the Department for Communities and Local Government.

 

County Council Budget Meeting

 

(2)       The Chairman moved the Vice Chairman seconded that the budget meeting on 22 February 2007 be extended to 5pm.

(3)       The Chairman referred to the appointments of MBE to Mr A J King – Deputy Leader; Mrs G Bromley, Strategic Manager, Kent County Council Libraries and Archives; Mrs A Smith, Assistant Headteacher, The North School, Ashford and Mrs A C Hilton, Teacher, Dame Janet Community Junior School, Ramsgate.

 

(4)       RESOLVED that the Council records its sincere congratulations to Mr King, Mrs Bromley, Mrs Smith and Mrs Hilton on their appointments.

(1)       Mr P B Carter moved Mr J R Bullock seconded that:-

(a)       the County Council debate the fundamental changes and considerable opportunities to public services and local governance in Kent presented by the White Paper; and

 

(b)       the Council welcomes and endorses the Statement of Intent agreed on 22 January 2007 by all Leaders of the Kent Local Authorities and authorises the Leader of the Council to sign this Statement of Intent.  The Council recognises the importance of other proposals included in the Local Government and Public involvement in Health Bill now before Parliament and refers these issues to the Informal Member Group on Going Local to work with the Leader in developing coherent proposals as the legislation proceeds.

 

(2)       Presentations were received by Mr Paul Kirby, KPMG Consultant; the Leader and the Chief Executive.

 

(3)       Following detailed debate the Chairman put to the vote the motion set out in (1)(b) above when the voting was as follows:-
