New Bus Route to Shearway Business Park in Folkestone

We the undersigned petition the council to respectfully submit this petition to request the establishment of a new, direct, and regularly scheduled bus route to Shearway Business Park

Essential Healthcare Access:

Shearway Business Park is the location of vital community NHS services, including; community ophthalmology, radiology and physiotherapy services.Currently, residents who do not have access to a private vehicle face significant difficulty, or are completely unable, to reach these essential healthcare facilities, especially those who suffer from severe visual impairments.

Public Health and Equality:

Lack of public transport directly impacts the health and well-being of the most vulnerable members of our community, including the elderly, those with disabilities, low-income families, and residents who are unable to drive. Establishing a bus route is a matter of public health equity and ensuring all citizens can access their required medical appointments.

Community Need: The journey to Shearway Business Park by public transport currently requires, two or more bus changes, a long and unsafe walk from the nearest stop, or an expensive taxi ride. This is unacceptable for individuals who are often unwell or have mobility issues.

Sustainable Transport: A new bus route would also support the Council’s commitment to sustainable transport by reducing reliance on private cars for essential journeys, easing congestion, and improving local air quality.

We therefore petition you to urgently review and approve funding for a new bus service that connects our residential areas directly to Shearway Business Park, ensuring it operates at times that align with the opening hours of the NHS services located there, some of which operate a 7 day service in order to support long NHS waiting lists

We believe this new route is a necessary investment in the health, mobility, and equality of access for residents in the local and surrounding areas of Folkestone and Hythe.
