KCC to listen to the people

We the undersigned petition the council to change the way consultation (particularly in relation to Household Waste Recycling Centres) is done by involving everyone who wants to be involved by communicating out to households by mail to get a fairer understanding from the people it affects. I want the council to engage with the wider community of the booking system at waste sites as I don’t believe the way the system was brought in was a fair consultation involving all concerned.

The booking system was brought in during Covid and whilst it worked for social distancing, since then restrictions are lifted and a majority of people do not find the booking system works for them but have little knowledge on where to find the consultations affecting them. Even if they do, finding the time to go on line to find any consultation can be a pain. KCC should mail drop everybody whenever a consultation is looking to be brought in that affects the whole community. The current way on line only does not engage with everyone so it is not fair. We now see risk of sites closing because KCC say the usage has dropped but that has been driven by the booking system not being as useable as just turning up when needed. It’s time to change and ensure everyone is consulted on issues that affect them by ensuring a full engagement is carried out to all that it matters to.
