Please sign this petition to ask Kent County Council to GUARANTEE free school meal vouchers during the holidays, to ensure that NO child goes hungry.
On Wednesday 21 October, Conservative MPS voted against a Labour
call to make free meals available for children - for those already
eligible in term time - during holidays, for the next six
months.
Tragically, 16.8% of children (51,145 children) in Kent are living
in relative low income families, this has increased by 32.8% over
the last 5 years (+12,622 children) and the impact of Covid-19 is
likely to have made this even worse.
Kent County Council has so far offered vouchers to those that make
contact with them via the website or telephone. This is a massive
step in the right direction, but unfortunately this does not go far
enough, as parents may not make contact for a number of
reasons.
The only way to GUARANTEE we do not have children going hungry is
by issuing the vouchers to ALL those that currently receive free
school meals, regardless of whether the parents make contact.
We should be leading from the front and setting an example to the rest of the country by ensuring that no child goes hungry.
Please sign this petition to ask Kent County Council to act
before the Christmas holidays arrive.
