KCC are proposing to close 38 Childrens Centres in Kent.
In Canterbury they want to close Riverside Children's Centre and squeeze the services into the Youth centre across the road.
We will lose such a valuable building and resource, that is accessible has a multi-sensory room and hearing loop. This is more than bricks and mortar this is a living, breathing community serving families across Canterbury and the rural areas.
We also risk losing the Apple Tree and Tina Rintoul Children's Centres, and the service for people with Learning Difficulties running from the Northgate hub.
We oppose the closure of these centres and services.

These spaces just can't be replicated in a "flexible approach", " community service model, " ie outreach.
It is so important for young families to meet and mix. We saw this during the covid pandemic, the effects of not socialising and the impact of children's physical and mental wellbeing.
We don't want that to happen again.
