KCC is required to set Equality Objectives that are specific and measurable and which will enable the Council to show progress on equality. They must be consistent with the Equality Act. This duty came into force on 6 April 2012.
KCC’s equality objectives have been developed drawing on the council’s current priorities and taking into account known areas of national concern in relation to equality. A 12-week consultation on the equality objectives ended on 31 July 2012 and in order to mitigate any risk, KCC’s previous equality strategy has been carried over until the decision is made.
The Cabinet is asked to take the decision to adopt the proposed equality objectives as part of its Public Sector Equality Duty (‘The Duty’ Section 149 of the Equality Act 2010).
