    Primary Commissioning in Gravesham District - 12/01949

    All school expansions are now listed as individual decisions and therefore the overarching decisions have been abandoned.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    The Cabinet Member is asked to agree to the proposal to: commission a permanent enlargement of St Botolphs CE PS by 1FE, for September 2013.

    How the decision relates to BS4K and Corporate Objectives

    The project is in line with Kent strategies and in particular supports the following;

     Bold Steps for Kent prioritises

    3  Ensure all pupils meet their full potential

    4: Shape education and skills provision around the needs of the Kent economy

    9. Support new housing growth that is affordable, sustainable and with the appropriate infrastructure

    The Commissioning Plan

    One of the key strategic roles of the Local Authority is to ensure there are sufficient education places of high quality available to the children and young people of Kent.  This responsibility is intertwined with our other strategic duties; to promote high standards in schools, and to be the champion of children, families and their communities.  The new Commissioning Plan will set out how Kent will discharge its responsibility as the Strategic Commissioner of education provision

    Impact/costs and risks of proposed decision

    Cost for the enlargement is expected to be around £950k

    If this proposal does not go ahead, there will be a significant risk of there being insufficient Year R places for parts of West Gravesham district for September 2013
