12/02032 - Former Library Headquarters (Springfield site)

Former Library Headquarters (Springfield) Sandling Road, Maidstone, ME14 2LH

    The Decision needed:

To seek approval to the disposal of the Former Library headquarters (Springfield), Maidstone following the marketing of the site. The site has been marketed and offers received, shortlisted and a preferred purchaser identified. In addition to delegate authority for the signing of legal agreements required to complete the sale of the property.

This decision relates to the Bold Steps for Kent in securing a capital receipt to fund the capital programme. The site will be re-developed and therefore provide an opportunity to build a strong relationship with key business sectors across Kent through the construction on the site. The future use of the development will have a positive impact on the local economy.

Impact/costs and risks of proposed decision

The impact of the decision will be that the receipt will be achieved as quickly as possible to ensure that the capital programme is delivered and minimise holding costs.  Without the decision, KCC will be unable to respond to the offer in a timely fashion without losing the prospective purchaser.  This will affect the delivery of the capital programme and will increase holding costs.
