Library Services in Sandgate

Update July 2015 – Decision withdrawn:

Developments to the proposals for Sandgate Library mean that plans are now for the refurbishment of the Library only and are within existing delegations to senior officers.  Therefore no formal Cabinet Member decision will be required.

To seek approval to delegate responsibility to Sandgate Parish Council for the day to day running of Library services from Sandgate Library, working with volunteers. KCC will retain the statutory responsibility for providing Library services.

To put the citizen in control: the new model will create opportunities for local engagement and involvement in running library services through volunteering opportunities

Service objectives:

  • create welcoming and attractive libraries which will be centres for local communities open at convenient times.
  • promote the enjoyment of reading for people of all ages, opportunities for learning
  • provide access to world-wide links to information and services,

 

Impact/costs and risks of proposed decision

·   Savings will be delivered.

·   Services to customers will remain the same

·   The Parish Council do not recruit sufficient volunteers and the library does not open for the required number of hours.

·   Training for Parish Council and volunteers is insufficient and the standard of service deteriorates
