The Decision needed: To endorse the replacement of the existing safety and red light cameras and site equipment for the Kent & Medway Safety Camera Partnership (KMSCP). This decision is to allow KCC to undertake a project to replace the existing outdated technology on behalf of the KMSCP (Kent Police, KCC, Medway Council and the Highways Agency). The initial funding for this project is provided from the surplus generated from the National Driver Offender Retraining Scheme (NDORS) courses.
Road safety and reducing road casualties is a key element of Growth without Gridlock. This is the Transport delivery plan and is a vital element of Bold Steps for Kent. This project is a key strand of Kent’s Road Casualty Reduction Strategy and contributes to a continuing collaborative approach to reducing road crashes and casualties and improving quality of life for Kent residents.
Impact/costs and risks of proposed decision:
There is little risk to the authority as no KCC funding has been allocated to this replacement, beyond that already allocated for maintenance. The only risk relates to the removal of the funding stream from NDORS. This risk is covered within the project process as suppliers will not be guaranteed any level of funding.
