Maidstone Integrated Transport Package Phase 1: Willington Street Maidstone junctions A274 Sutton Road and A20 Ashford Road SE LGF Scheme.

The scheme supports the objectives of supporting existing businesses and encouraging economic activity by improving accessibility by reducing traffic congestion and improving safety.

Works are covered under existing budget allocations following provisional South East Local Enterprise (SELEP) funding and Section 106 developer contributions.  There are no legal implications with this scheme, which will be delivered under permitted development.

Detailed scheme design will consider equalities aspect.

Financial Implications:

 

The overall estimated scheme cost is £1.8m.  The allocation from the Local Growth Fund is £1.3m. The remaining £500k is available from Section 106 Local Developer contributions. 

 

The costs of developing the scheme are included within the estimate.

Policy Framework

 

The scheme supports the Strategic Statement objectives of supporting existing businesses and encouraging economic activity with housing growth and job creation by reducing congestion and improving infrastructure and accessibility.

 

An Equality Impact Assessment (EQiA) will be completed and updated throughout the process as required.  Kent County Council Legal Services will be consulted and appointed if necessary.  It is not anticipated at this stage Legal representation will be required.

The Environment and Transport Cabinet Committee will consider this proposal at its meeting on 11 March 2016.

 

The following electoral divisions are particularly affected:

Local Members for Maidstone South East, Gary Cooke; Maidstone Rural North, Paul Cater and Maidstone South, Brian Clark.

 

There is a Steering Group containing officers from KCC and MBC that feeds directly to local Members in relation to the scheme.
